Friends of PACC and Tucson Rescue Now Partnering to Save PACC Dogs

PIMA COUNTY, July 6, 2023 – Friends of Pima Animal Care Center and Tucson Rescue Now (TRN) are excited to announce a partnership supporting new adoption opportunities for dogs sheltered at Pima Animal Care Center (PACC). The partnership aims to expand Tucson Rescue Now’s existing operations, allowing it to showcase more PACC dogs for adoption at offsite locations. It is anticipated that the partnership will facilitate the adoption of several hundred homeless dogs each year.

Tucson Rescue Now currently operates an adoption center at La Encantada Shopping Center on Skyline Drive, highlighting dogs brought from PACC. Since opening its doors, the Rescue has placed over 400 dogs in new homes, many of which were overlooked while residing at PACC. The partnership with Friends of PACC will enable Tucson Rescue Now to open a 2nd larger facility, tripling the number of PACC dogs being showcased across the community.

Tucson Rescue Now Director Bonny Harris states, “Tucson Rescue Now has previously focused on finding adoptive homes for senior and medical needs dogs. Expanding our operations lets us work with PACC to help dogs who may be struggling with living in a high-volume shelter, resulting in successful adoptions and shorter lengths of stay at the shelter.”

Friends of PACC, as the non-profit partner for the County’s only open-admission animal shelter, is committed to expanding community-based solutions to the overpopulation challenges facing PACC. These solutions include proactive surrender prevention programs and projects to enhance PACC’s outreach to communities and citizens across Pima County.

“The partnership with Tucson Rescue Now perfectly aligns with our goal to bring PACC to all the people of Pima County, not just the ones with easy access to the shelter,” according to Friends of PACC Board Chair, Laura O’Brien. “We envision a future with multiple adoption outposts across the County.”

Efforts are already underway to identify the 2nd Tucson Rescue Now location. Launching a new adoption location is a significant endeavor and only possible due to both organizations’ tremendous volunteer and donor support.

“A second location creates new volunteer opportunities in a variety of areas. Our success is directly linked to our volunteers' dedication to helping our community's homeless dog population,” indicates Harris. People interested in visiting the store to meet adoptable dogs or learning more about volunteer opportunities can visit www.tucsonrescuenow.org.
