Celebrating Hope and Compassion: The Unveiling of Karen's Karing Van

Yesterday was a monumental day for animal welfare in Pima County, as Friends of PACC and PACC unveiled 'Karen's Karing Van' – PACC’s new mobile veterinary unit. In a heartwarming ceremony, Pima Animal Care Center and Friends of PACC commemorated the launch of this transformative project, honoring the legacy of Karen Bright, a cherished Friends of PACC supporter.

Karen's Karing Van is more than a mobile medical unit. It's a beacon of hope that will travel across Pima County, reaching pet families at risk of surrendering their animals to the shelter and providing essential veterinary care. Manufactured by Phoenix-based Magnum Specialty Vehicles, this state-of-the-art 25-foot trailer is equipped with everything from surgical tables and dental equipment to an x-ray unit, enabling us to provide vaccinations, wellness checks, minor surgeries, and dental work.

We are optimistic that Karen's Karing Van will help us proactively address pet health issues and prevent them from escalating to the point of surrender. It's an innovative approach to keep pets with their families and out of the shelter. Each family helped, and each pet treated is one less potential surrender to PACC and one more life saved.

To ensure accessibility to as many pet families as possible, all services will be offered on a 'donate-what-you-can' basis. The unit will service zip codes with high rates of surrender first. It can also be used in disaster relief situations. Karen's Karing Van is projected to serve more than 15,000 pets and their families annually, significantly impacting the lives of animals and their humans in Pima County. PACC hopes to have Karen’s Karing Van on the road by the Fall/Winter of 2023.
