Keeping Families Together

We need your help to keep pets out of the shelter. Friends of PACC’s Keeping Families Together fund prevents thousands of pets from coming into the shelter every year due to medical needs that are cost-prohibitive for their families and the provision of supplies like dog booties, leashes, collars, pet food, microchips, vaccines, and so much more. Some families love their pets and want to provide the best care possible, but live in areas of our community with a shortage of veterinary offices and pet supply stores. With your help, we can fill this gap! Click here to donate and help pets and their families.

Goals of Keeping Families Together

  • Help our whole community keep their pets safe and at home.

  • Cultivate community involvement in pet welfare.

  • Make Pima Animal Care Center a household name synonymous with community support for pets.

Safety Net Fostering

Picture this: a cozy spot for pets when their families endure tough times. The Safety Net program is a unique, short-term way to help pets and their families during challenging moments, like moving homes or a hospital stay. Being a Safety Net foster gives a pet a temporary home for no more than 90 days. These pets have a well-known history and usually don’t have significant health or behavior problems. No need to find new homes—they’ll return to their families when times get better! Think of it like pet sitting with extra love. Whether you’re new to fostering or have lots of experience, this short-term care helps keep pets and families together when they need it most!

Pet Support Center

The Pet Support Center at PACC helps thousands of families with referrals to trainers, boarding, pet-friendly housing, critical medical supplies and services, and the networking that gets pets into safe and loving homes through local rescue groups.

With your support even more pets will have the chance to stay with their families and thrive.

Slinky’s family loved him very much. He was the perfect family dog but got very sick one day. It was discovered that he had a kidney/bladder stone and needed an expensive surgery. His owners simply could not afford his care and were devastated when they called PACC to surrender him. With the help of our Keeping Families Together fund Friends of PACC was able to pay for his surgery. Slinky recovered and stayed at home with his people instead of ending up in the shelter.

Community Outreach

Originally known as the Pup in Boots project, Friends of PACC’s community outreach efforts are now all under the umbrella of Keeping Families Together. Over 100,000 pounds of pet food, or nearly two million meals, were distributed to more than 4,000 families and their pets. Families in need of assistance can also receive microchips, vaccines, leashes, collars, food bowls, dog booties, cat litter, blankets, toys, and so much more.

These resources are supported entirely by donations from individuals and partners like GreaterGood.org.

Get Involved

Pets belong with their families and, as great as the new shelter is, surrendering a pet should be a last resort. Sometimes all it takes to keep a family together is providing owners with a leash and fencing supplies. Sometimes all it takes is a free microchip or vaccine clinic. Will you support pets and their families by giving a gift today?
