Top Five Saves - #4 Blinkin's Furever Home
Blinkin had a rough start at life. At just a few days old she was brought to Pima Animal Care Center as an abandoned kitten. Her foster mom, Danielle, took her home to keep her warm and feed her every two hours. This act alone saved Blinkin’s life. PACC takes in hundreds of orphaned kittens every year and it’s only with help from dedicated fosters, and your donations that purchase lifesaving supplies, that we can save these precious lives.
At two weeks old when Blinkin first opened her eyes it was clear that something was very wrong. Her eyes were bulging, clouded over, and oozing. It was determined that the damage to her eyes was likely genetic and irreversible. She was still a tiny kitten and so surgery was delayed until the last possible moment while she continued to grow and thrive in her foster home. Despite her itchy and troubling eyes, her foster mom said she was always a “big ball of energy with a spunky attitude.” Even after her first eye removal “no obstacle got her down.” She continued to grow and bond with her foster family, including Lily, her rescued canine sister.
This tiny but mighty kitten was adopted by her foster family and loved to play with toys and show her foster kitten siblings “how to cat.”
But one day, several years later, Blinkin developed troubling symptoms around a bump on her eyelid. The family veterinarian determined that it was time to remove what was left of her remaining eye, including scar tissue from her previous infection, and completely close the eye socket. The surgery was costly and Blinkin’s family were beside themselves. They were afraid of losing their beloved cat that they had raised from a tiny newborn kitten, but Blinkin was in pain and in danger of infection—she needed treatment.
That’s when Blinkin’s owner reached out the Pet Support Hotline at Pima Animal Care Center. The staff connected her to a local vet that Friends of PACC contracts with and thanks to your donations, Blinkin got the surgery she needed with support from our Keeping Families Together Fund. She is now a perfectly healthy, happy, and completely blind cat at 3 1/2 years old and was able to stay with her loving family.
