Bran Learned to Walk Again

Bran was malnourished and couldn’t use his legs when he arrived at the shelter. He was so very sad.

Bran was malnourished and couldn’t use his legs when he arrived at the shelter. He was so very sad.

Bran was saved by an Animal Protection Officer. He couldn’t move any of his legs, and was suffering from undernourishment and ringworm when he arrived at Pima Animal Care Center. The vet team feared he had experienced a trauma to his spine, but aside from being malnourished, further tests gave no clues. Yet, they weren’t ready to give up on him.

Thanks to the vet team’s ingenuity and a loving foster home, Bran was nursed slowly back to health. His foster mom worked to build up his muscle strength through nutrition and range of motion exercises three times per day. She also had to help him express his bladder as he couldn’t stand or urinate on his own. Taking care of Bran was a full-time job that led to incredible rewards.

Through the dedication of his foster mom, Bran slowly started to urinate on his own. A few days later he began using his front legs to scoot around. A month and a half later, Bran was able to stand up and walk short distances without help. Today, he is finally able to climb cat trees, get up on the bed, and live a normal cat life with his adopted kitty sister Nymphadora Tonks.

“He was the cat that inspired me to start advocating for sick and injured cats. He’s just a goofy cat with a funky gait that brings me laughter and joy every single day,” says his former foster, now adopted mom.

Bran still has a limp but is fit, healthy, and thriving thanks to a dedicated foster and a vet team who wouldn’t give up. That’s what Pima Animal Care Center is all about, and your donations make it possible. Gifts to Friends of PACC make sure that each and every pet at the shelter has all possible opportunities to thrive.
