Lovely's Legacy of Compassion
It is with the heaviest hearts that we write this update on Lovely, the chihuahua who was doused in gasoline and set on fire by her owner earlier this month. This morning Lovely went into cardiac arrest and the veterinarians were unable to save her.
Knowing that she is now pain free is only a small comfort. The community came together around Lovely and gave her everything to save her life. Her death is a devastating outcome in this disturbing case of animal cruelty.
While Lovely's case was a particularly extreme one, the Animal Protection Officers at Pima Animal Care Center get over 200 calls per month to investigate possible neglect, abuse, and cruelty. With nearly 17,000 pets coming into the shelter each year, that's a large percentage of suffering animals.
Pima Animal Care Center will continue to answer the call, in every case for every animal, because every life matters here.
Donations sent in for #SaveLovely that exceed the cost of her final care will be used to start a fund in her honor. The Lovely's Fund for Neglected and Abused Pets will help ensure that animals suffering from extreme abuse and neglect face no financial barriers to the best care possible.
Please donate today to support Lovely's legacy of compassion and share her story with #LovelysLegacy.
