Top Five Saves - #3 Penny

This is the third of five special saves we’re sharing through December 31st. Your support saved these lives and made these happy stories possible. Let’s celebrate these successes together as we count down to the New Year! Be sure to stay tuned to get the scoop on these special pets, and remember that when you make a gift today it will be matched dollar-for-dollar thanks to generous local donors.

You may remember little Penny, a four pound chihuahua that found her way to Pima Animal Care Center as a stray. It’s hard to imagine what life must have been like for this tiny pup when she was alone in the big world. Thankfully, a kind-hearted person brought her to PACC. Thanks to an outpouring of community support and a special gift from a matching donor, Penny got the specialty care she needed.

The first surgery for her jaw had to be performed at an off-site specialty vet. Her injury turned out to be older than we’d initially thought and so she had to have a part of her jaw removed and another part wired. But right away we could tell she was feeling so much better. Her foster mom took care of her night and day, even feeding her baby food from a spoon to be sure she received the proper nutrition to heal.

Penny’s true personality started to emerge as soon as she came home from surgery. A sleepy and timid pup initially, she blossomed into a sassy and very playful sweetheart.

Penny had her second, and hopefully final, surgery earlier this month and is doing great. Her foster mom makes sure she’s always warm and fed, and they are always together. Penny even has a new home lined up as soon as she’s healed enough. Her new mom and dad are already preparing for her arrival with new wardrobe purchases, special raised bowls for food and water, and toys just for her. She will even have lots of furry siblings, including a sister that’s just her size.

Like every pet that comes through the shelter, this little princess deserved a chance to heal and thrive. Your support gave her that opportunity. Please consider making a gift in honor of Penny and other homeless pets like her. Your gift today will be matched and double the impact on these precious lives.
