PACC Top 10 Saves of 2017 - #5 Leia, as in Princess Leia
Number 5 on our countdown of the top 10 PACC saves of 2017 is royalty. Princess Leia is a story that typifies the works being done at PACC and what Friends PACC does to support helping homeless pets such as Leia. Your support made happy endings such as Leia possible. A generous donor has agreed to match contributions to PACC on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $10,000. Please donate today and double your impact.
Leia (as in Princess Leia) was in bad shape. She was surrendered to PACC in need of deep healing—inside and out.
Still a young pup, Leia was severely underweight. She was in great pain all over her body, with sores and fur loss. She suffered noticeable depression. After some testing, it was also discovered Leia had Valley Fever and a severe allergy to the protein in her food.
Medications for these conditions can be expensive and beyond what PACC can cover on its own. Friends of PACC—thanks to community donations—was able to step up and supply the necessary but costly medicine.
At the same time, Denise and her family opened their home to Leia. A registered nurse by training, Denise is compelled to help heal severely ill pets by fostering, and this is when Leia’s true recovery began.
Today, Leia is a new dog. She’s gained weight and is free of sores on her body. Her coat is thick and shiny. Best of all, Leia acts like a two-year-old pup should. She enjoys the company of other dogs, going on car rides, and lying around watching a good movie or two.
After months of nursing Leia back to health, Denise and her family decided they just couldn’t say goodbye and officially adopted her. Leia is now flourishing, both in body and spirit.
Please consider making your year-end, tax-deductible gift to the Friends of Pima Animal Care Center so we can continue to save pets like Leia in 2018!
